We had two nice winners on Tuesday and we also collected some each way money giving a nice profit on the day. We have four selections for Goodwood and Galway on Wednesday to keep the good run going.
The longest race of race on the card takes place on the opening race on the card the Goodwood Stakes over 2 mile 5 furlongs on the flat. The key to this race is obviously a strong stayer and we have 2 that are of interest here. The 1st of those horse is Nicky Henderson’s dual purpose gelding Lieutenant Miller 6/1 finished 3rd in the Ascot stakes over just a furlong shorter and will be there come the business end of the race under big race Tom Queally. The 2nd horse that needs a mention is Mark Johnston’s improving filly Broxbourne 7/1 who was a 12/1 winner for this column only last Friday. That race was over 2 mile and the trainer is quoted as saying that she will need every yard of the marathon distance on the flat. She travelled so sweetly at Doncaster and took it up close home before bounding clear a furlong out to win by close to 4 lengths. These two can battle out the finish and they are closely matched on there meeting back in April at Doncaster over 2 mile where Lieutenant Miller won and Broxbourne was 2nd just over a length between them. 1 point each way on each and reverse forecast advised.
4.15 Goodwood -
Much Promise 5/2 with Boylesports.com did exactly as her name suggests on debut when running a close 2nd to a smart filly of Michael Stoute’s All Again who franked the form by finishing 3rd in a Group 3 last Saturday. She was not that fancied on debut and challenged turning in and pushed the winner all the way to the line. The daughter of Invincible Spirit has some fancy entries including the Cheveley park group 1 stakes later in the year and can take this en route to a promising career. 1 point win.
3.25 Galway -
Courtncatcher 10/1 with Boylesports.com can get his head in front in the open looking handicap hurdle rated for horses between (81-123). The Catcher In The Rye Gelding has ran the two best races of his life recently winning at Roscommon and then finishing up to impressive winner on the night Landero at the same track. He is still open to improvement and can get in the winners enclosure for small trainer Paul Duffy. 1 point each way.
5.30 Galway -
Majestic Concorde 9/1 with Boylesports.com can take the feature race of the week the master of Roswell Dermot Weld. The classy 10 year old gelding has been laid out for this by his trainer and the eye-catching jockey booking of Jason Maguire looks a shrewd move. The last time he ran over fences was 2 years ago when well backed for this same race only for the saddle to slip. He won the 150k Paddy Power chase at Leoparsdstown back in 2010 and is such a classy individual that if he gets a clear run round he has to go close. The trainer makes no secret of the fact that he fancies him to run a big race and when the man that has trained over 3000 winners you need to sit up and take notice. The horse is getting on a little bit in years but has not been over raced and can sparkle here to bring the house down for the Galway king Dermot Weld. 1 point each way.
