On On such a sad day for horse racing fans with the news that RTE presenter Colm Murray has passed away, we look ahead to some great racing at Goodwood and Galway, Colm would have looked forward to this week all year.
Aljamaheer 3/1 with Boylesports.com can take the Group 2 Lennox stakes for excellent trainer Roger Varian and former champion jockey Paul Hanagan. He has improved with every run this season finishing 2nd to Farhh in the Lockinge Group 1 at Newbury before another fine effort in defeat when coming up against Declaration Of War at Ascot before getting his own day in the sun when winning the Group 2 summer mile at Ascot last time. If there is a lot of rain the selection will be pulled out and Garswood 9/2 would be the one to be on as he is better with cut in the ground and we have not yet seen the best of Richard Fahey’s talented gelding. 2 point win.
Azrael 10/3 with Boylesports.com is 2 from 2 at the straight course at Yarmouth over 7 furlongs and a mile. That makes him of definite interest in the 7 furlong handicap on the card for trainer Alan Mccabe and 7 pound claimer Aaron Jones. He loves the course and while he is running of a high mark and top weight in this handicap the jockey claim of 7 pound will be a huge held. He can win again on a course that he is very effective at. 1 point win.
Rathlin 15/8 has been a revelation since reverting to fences and can take another step up the chasing ladder by taking the Latin Quarter chase over 2 mile 6 furlongs at the Ballybrit venue this evening. The son of Kayf Tara has put in flawless rounds of jumping when winning in Killarney and Punchestown this season and will be hard beat under champion jockey Davy Russell. 2 point win.
Face Value 12/1 can cause an upset in the final race on the card over 2 miles on the flat. The Ado McGuiness gelding has a fine record at the track and had a pipe opener for this at Bellewstown last time out when finishing 3rd to in form mare Knockcroghery. He won his maiden hurdle at the track and a novice hurdle and stable jockey Ian Brennan knows how to get the best out of the son of Tobougg. The rain that is likely to turn conditions soft during the day will be a big plus to his chances and is a good each way bet. 1 point each way.
