It has announced Orfevre will not be making the trip to Meydan to contest the of $10m dollars Dubai World Cup in March. The five-year old will be campaigned in his homeland instead.
The Japanese superstar was ante-post favourite for the world’s richest race. He was narrowly denied in the Prix de l’ Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp and the Japan Cup towards the end of last year. This left him the pick of many punters to take the spoils in Dubai.
Connections today declared his aim for2013 will once agian be the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris in October
The quarantine and travel seems to have been the decisive matter in Yasutoshi Ikee’s decision.
Speaking to the Japan Racing Association, trainer Yasutoshi Ikee said: “Travelling to Dubai in March was one of his options, but if he runs in Dubai, he has to complete several days quarantine procedures.
“Also he suffers from losing weight by travelling more than when he was younger. We have judged that travelling to Dubai would not be good for him this time.
“He has recovered well in the private yard – Northern Farm Shigaraki – and will be back to my stable in JRA Ritto Training Centre in late February or early March.”
With the ante-post favourite now missing from the contest it looks like a race that could go to the North Americans. Horse such as Little Mike and Animal Kingdom look to be the strong forces in this year’s renewal . Animal Kingdom recently had been plagued with injury and put up a very smart performance to finish second behind Wise Dan in the Breeders Cup Mile after a 189 day layoff. An improvement can be expected from that run and he is sure to be value at his current of around 7-1.
