The 2012 Moyglare Stud Stakes went for export as Sky Lantern romped away with the Group 1 prize for Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes to give that duo their first top level success this season.
Sent off at a generous price of 7/1, Sky Lantern was travelling much the best for Hughes in the 7f contest and when the jockey asked his mount to quicken, she did so in impressive style to record a deeply impressive success from the fast finishing Scintillula and the favourite Harasiya.
One raced maiden Karamaya took the field along in the early stages with the main market principals, My Special J’s, Sendmylovetorose and Harasiya content to sit just behind the pace.
Two furlongs out Hughes made his move and the response was instant and Sky Lantern skipped away to win by two and a half lengths, whih could have been more if Hughes wanted to.
Speaking after the race assistant trainer Richard Hannon jr said “It was a pretty open Moyglare but she did it very impressively. You couldn’t say she wasn’t the best filly in the race at the end. She is a filly that carries a lot of weight and she will last until the end of the season. She will b a Guineas filly for next season.”
Paddy Power cut the winner from 33/1 to 16/1 for the 2012 English 200 Guineas.
