Nina Carberry has today crowned The Irish Times/Irish Sports Council ‘Sportswoman of the Year’.
The award was in recognition of her excellent season, in which she won the Irish Grand National among other numerous races. She became only the second female jockey to win the former race.
The 25-year-old Meath girl was presented with her award by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny at a ceremony in Dublin.
Boxer Katie Taylor, golfers Leona and Lisa Maguire, athlete Fionnuala Britton and squash player Madeline Perry were others honoured on the day.
Golfer Mary McKenna was also awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her valued contribution to the world of golf.
