Thurles is the host to a seven race card which commences with the Holy Cross Mares Maiden Hurdle at 2:05.
The feature race is the Clonmore Handicap Hurdle at 3:05, in which Kilmainham will be attempting to follow up his easy maiden hurdle success at this venue last month.
The opening contest at 2:05 plays host to the interesting Speckled Wood. She is the progeny of the great Like-A-Butterfly who died last week. It would be a fitting result to see Speckled Wood take this contest.
Both her runs to date have been over this course and distance, which she was placed on both occasions. She should have the class to take this ordinary event for owner JP McManus. The main danger lies in New River. Dessie Hughes’s charge wear cheek-pieces for the first time and could very well benefit from them enough to improve on her recent placed effort.
Rolly Baby is the most interesting contender in the thurles.ie (C & G) Maiden Hurdle at 2:35. Mullins’ gelding hasn’t been seen since finishing a close second to Jim Will Fix It in a Clonmel bumper on his debut back in November 2010 but Willie Mullins has clearly kept the eight-year-old in training for a reason and it would be no surprise to see him strike at the first time of asking over timber if fitness does not cause a problem. The main danger lies in recent Punchestown placed Follow The Sign.
Kilmainham 9/2 is sure to have many followers after his recent course win in The Clonmore Handicap Hurdle at 3:05. Perhaps the form of that race is average and could pay to side with Is Herself About at 12/1. She has listed form behind Midnight Game only two runs ago. She has dropped 4lbs to 112 since last year and could be good enough to win this ordinary contest tomorrow. The clear negatives are she only ran 4 days ago in Leopardstown but she did not get much of a race that day. This seems like a drop in class again and she could be good each way value at her large price.
Are Ya Right is sure to be popular in the Cashel Maiden Hurdle at 3:35. He is carrying a penalty for his bumper win and that burden is sure to cause him a problem over this trip and on this ground. It could pay to side with the unexposed Davy From Milan who could very well improve on his second to the Paparazzi Kid and be good enough to take this. He is carrying 8lbs less than Are Ta Right Chief and that is sure to prove decisive.
The closing race is the Munster Flat Race at 5:05. This looks to be a tricky bumper and the one who makes the most appeal is Cyprian Prince. He won his point-to-point fist time of asking in Dromahane and tomorrow could show enough ability to take this at a decent price. Afatcat and Arctic Wolf look to be the danger.
