Wayne Rooney got off the mark as a racehorse owner on Thursday afternoon, when Yourartisonfire won the juvenile race at Haydock.
The Manchester United striker is a recent convert to the sport of kings and has seen his colours finish well down the field on his first runner Pippy. However, the player had more reason to celebrate today,as the Elaine Burke trained Yourartisonfire came home first of the four runners in his race.
The colt is owned in a syndicate which also includes Rooney’s former teammate and current Sunderland defender John O’Shea. The Irish man is no stranger to racing, having enjoyed success here in Ireland with a couple of his runners who are trained by Pat Flynn.
Sent off the 6-4 favourite today, Yourartisonfire improved on his debut fourth at Nottingham, staying on strongly in the final furlong to win going away by two and a quarter lengths from Mayaasem.
The win is sure to please his superstar owner who has a number of horses in training with Tom Dascombe.
