There looked to be around 15,000 people in Limerick and they witnessed eight tries and a fantastic man of the match performance by three try here Craig Gilroy.
Unfortunately Fiji never really turned up. The explosive running rugby they are renowned was not on show tonight and they failed to get on the score board.
Ireland captain Jamie Heaslip was a lot happier this week after the match he said “The win is massive. Although we have had a great three weeks’ training and great energy, we have had nothing to show for it. A lot of the young lads took their opportunity and played out of their skin. ‘Gillers’ (Craig Gilroy) showed some serious wheels to take his tries but everyone did well.”
Declan Kidney was not as happy after the victory ‘The third quarter was very poor and it cost us last week, our defence impressed me today.’
When asked who impressed he said ‘There was a lot of good work, Craig Gilroy looked to have enjoyed it and took his chances well.’
Its a must win match next week and Declan Kidney was well aware of this ‘We have to get a win next week against Argentina after the result last night with Samoa beating Wales.’
The seeding for the Rugby World Cup 2015 is on December 3rd and Ireland have to be in the top 8 or they will end up in a very poor pool with two top nations.
Johnny Sexton is fine even though he did not take his place on the bench.
