Legendary Irish rugby player Brian O’Driscoll has been confirmed as the new rugby pundit on the sports radio show Off The Ball on Newstalk.
It was announced on the Pat Kenny Show this morning that the recently retired rugby star will be joining the Newstalk team. O’Driscoll will start his new job at the station in September.
O’Driscoll played his last professional game of rugby on Saturday but was taken off after suffering an injury in Leinster’s 34-12 victory over Glasgow Warriors in the PRO12 final. During his storied career, the former Irish captain won two Six Nations championships, three Heineken Cups, four Pro12 championships, an Amlin Challenge Cup and has taken part in four Lions tours.
The top scoring Irish try scorer of all time was optimistic with his new role, speaking to the Irish Independent. He said, “Making the decision to join the Off the Ball team was an easy one for me – it’s the nation’s leading sports show and best radio station and following a break this summer I’ll be more than ready for it come September.”
O’Driscoll will give his first official interviewing following his retirement on Off the Ball tonight.
