The Emerging Ireland squad has been named for the upcoming three match tour in June. The 26-man squad that’s set to play Russia, Uruguay and Romania in the IRB Nations Cup includes 20 uncapped players.
The Emerging Ireland team will be coached by Dan McFarland of Connacht while Ulster’s Neil Doak will act as Assistant coach.
The team’s first match in the tournament is against Russia on Friday June 13. They will face Uruguay five days later on Wednesday June 18 and will round off the tour with a match against hosts Romania on Sunday June 22.
Some of the bigger names to be called up for the tour include explosive Ulster centre Craig Gilroy, Munster duo Tommy O’Donnell and Ian Keatley and Leinster’s Mike McCarthy, who will captain the side.
The tour gives players a platform to showcase their skills with the hope of being called up to the senior squad. Players from last year’s our who have subsequently been called up to the senior team include Dave Kearney, Jack McGrath, Martin Moore and Jordi Murphy.
