Nigel Owens has been announced as the referee of this year’s RaboDirect PRO12 Final between Leinster and Glasgow Warriors.
This will mark the second time the Welshman has taken charge in the final of the competition. He refereed the final in 2011 in which Munster came out victorious over Leinster. The tournament was then known as the Celtic League.
The appointed of Owens could be a good omen for Leinster. He was in charge when the province tasted success in the 2013 Amlin Challenge final and in the 2009 and 2012 Heineken Cup finals.
Owens is one of the most recognisable officials in world rugby and is very experienced refereeing big matches having been the man in the middle for three Heineken Cup and two Amlin Cup finals.
The assistant referees for the match will be Leighton Hodges and Ian Davies and Derek Bevan will act as the TMO to complete an all Welsh refereeing panel.
The RaboDirect PRO12 final kicks off on Saturday May 31 at 6:15pm in the RDS, Dublin. Leinster will be looking for their second title in a row, having defeated Ulster in the final last year.
