Ireland’s Allain Rolland and George Clancy are to take charge of the AMLIN Challenge Cup semi-finals. The pair cannot take charge of the more prestigious Heineken semi-finals as there is an Irish province in each semi-final.
Match officials for the Heineken Cup semi-finals have also been named by the ERC Match Officials Sub Committee. The man who refereed the 2011 final; France’s Romain Poite, will take charge of Ulster Rugby v Edinburgh at the Aviva Stadium. Meanwhile, Wayne Barnes will be the man with the whistle for Clermont Auvergne v Leinster at Stade Chaban-Delmas.
Barnes is of course the man who was in charge of Ireland’s World Cup quarter-final exit to Wales in New Zealand last October. He also took charge of Ireland’s last minute defeat to Wales in this year’s Six Nations; giving Stephen Ferris the controversial late yellow and then awarding Wales the last minute penalty decision which was the ultimate difference between the sides as Wales squeezed past Ireland to a two point win and ultimately, the Grand Slam.
