As the Premier League takes a break due to international action, the eyes of the football world are sure to be watching the best strikers as they vie to turn their club form into something tangible for their country.
One such forward is Daniel Sturridge. Following his winning goal against Manchester United on Sunday, Boylesports can report that punters have started to support Sturridge to win the 2013/14 Premier League Golden Boot title.
Sturridge, who has just turned 24, has now scored three goals in the Premier League and is now 9/1 from 12/1 with Boylesports.
In truth, while his performance against the Red Devils may not have been the most dominant, as he only scored the one goal, but it proved that he is one of the most clinical strikers in England right now. It allowed the young striker to announce himself as not only being capable of scoring against the minnows, but as an accomplished player, with the ability to undo any defence there is.
Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, who has also scored three goals so far, is available alongside Sergio Aguero at 10/1 to be crowned Top Goalscorer.
Manchester United’s Robin Van Persie has scored two goals so far this season and has slightly drifted in the betting to retain his crown and is now 9/4 from 11/5 with Boylesports.
Following their disappointing loss to Liverpool, punters don’t seem to want to put their faith in Manchester United retaining the Premier League title and they are now 4/1 from 11/4 to win the 2013/14 Premier League.
Undeniably, the Dutchman seemed quite off his game last Sunday as Martin Skrtel and company did an excellent job of keeping him quiet throughout. In fact, the best he could manage that afternoon was to smash an effort into the side-netting late on.
But don’t worry, he’ll be back with more goals.
Leon Blanche, Head of Communications at Boylesports told SportsNewsIreland: ,“We have seen some cash come in for Daniel Sturridge and punters are availing of the current 9/1 with Boylesports paying 1/4 1-2-3-4 Places on the EPL Top Goalscorer market.”
He added: “RVP is still the warm favourite to retain the title but our book is proving to be a major loss if Daniel Sturridge manages to capture the Golden Boot title from RVP.”
Other big names to come away with the Golden Boot next May include Roberto Soldado (10/1), Olivier Giroud (12/1) and Alvaro Negredo at 14/1.
Meanwhile Fernando Torres is available as an outside choice at 28/1, and Luis Suarez, who is still serving out the rest of his 10-match ban is at odds of 18/1.
