AC Milan scored twice in three second-half minutes to undo a spirited Celtic performance in their Group H Champions League opener in Italy.
A Charlie Mulgrew direct free-kick inside the Milan penalty area in the 18th minute was deflected out.
Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre guided Cristian Zapata’s 82nd-minute strike into the back of his own net.
Moments later, Fraser Forster palmed Mario Balotelli’s free-kick, but Sulley Muntari poked home on the rebound.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon: “We had good chances tonight and that’ll be the one regret. We were in good spirits coming into the game, it heightens the disappointment by playing so well. Our performance was of a very high standard.
“We have Barcelona coming up and they’re a different animal. I’ve told the players to hold onto the disappointment of tonight and take that into the game in two weeks’ time.”
