Dundalk face a difficult start to their 2013 Airtricity League of Ireland campaign, when they take on bookies favourites Shamrock Rovers at Oriel Park at 7.45 on Friday night.

The County Louth side were fortunate to stay in the top flight last season, and a visit from Rovers is not the ideal way to start the new campaign. Shamrock Rovers will be smarting from losing their crown to Sligo in 2012, and they are rightly considered favourites to win it back in 2013.

It took a play off win for Dundalk to remain in Division One last season and new manager Stephen Kenny will be hoping that it is a little easier for his charges this year. A new boss coming in can often lift a team, and with a few new signing eager to impress, life may not be as difficult for Dundalk. Shamrock Rovers will settle for nothing less than league success in 2013 and the pressure will be on the Tallaght based club from Friday night’s outset. The side have the ability to win the title and they will definitely be involved in the finish.

Sean O’Connor has returned to Shamrock Rovers and he will be hoping to help his side build on the disappoints of last season’s fourth place, as they attempt to recapture the form of 2011.
