North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal look set to battle it out for the signature of Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Sebastian Rode, according to the Daily Star.
The German player has been leading the way in the Bundesliga this season, as the newly-promoted side currently sit fourth, one point behind Bayer Leverkusen. He has already been checked out by a number of Europe’s top clubs, with Bayern Munich also keeping tabs on the Germany under-21 international.
Although there are still 18 months left to run on his current contract, Rode admitted that he may yet decide on a move away from Frankfurt this summer:
“The interest is known to me. I’ll keep my feet on the ground and not start dreaming. Eintracht Frankfurt and I have agreed to postpone the talks so I can concentrate on my football.”
Tottenham held preliminary talks with Frankfurt over a deal last summer, but failed to reach an agreement on a transfer fee. Now it seems that their bitter rivals are keen to snatch the player from under their nose.
Rode has three caps for Germany under-21s, and is seen as a real star of the future.
