Frustrated by their failure to defend their Champions League or La Liga titles; Barcelona are set to swoop for a traditional center forward in Fernando Llorente.
According to Spanish newspaper, Sport, the Blaugrauna have identified the Spain international as the ideal player to add an extra dimension to their attack due to his aerial ability and his strength in the penalty area.
It is reported that Barca’s sporting director Andoni Zubizeretta has tabled a bid for the 27 year-old, though it is yet to be accepted, with several La Liga and English Premier League clubs also said to be interested.
Sport have reported that Barcelona have accepted that they need more variety in their play after their one dimensional – albeit very attractive – style was countered by Chelsea’s rugged rearguard in the Champions League semi-finals.
Barca believe that the 6’5″ hitman, who has netted seven times in 20 appearances for his country, will provide them with the cutting edge they were so sorely lacking against the Blues.
The Bilbao striker will go up against his prospective new employers in this month’s Copa del Rey final at the Vicente Calderon.
