Aston Villa dominated the first half, and took the lead when Christian Benteke flicked home Joe Bennett’s cross. Stephen Ireland also had the ball in the net shortly afterwards but he had strayed offside.

But Bradford restored their two-goal aggregate advantage early in the second-half as Bradford’s most expensive player  at £7,500, this James Hanson headed in.

Andreas Weimann slotted in late on but it was not enough despite fur minutes injury time for Aston Villa.

Paul Lambert must now be very worried about his job after this humiliating result.

Lambert is completely out of his depth. Roberto di Matteo could just about save them as so many other strugglers. If Lambert remains Villa are doomed – at present they would not even make top 10 in the Championship. Dunne has been greatly missed.
