The domestic season got underway on Monday evening as round one of the Capital One Cup finally kicked-off.
Of course, while the big guns of British football won’t be in action until much later in the tournament, many of the minnows will have been keen to get their season off to the best possible start with a win.
No doubt, many will be hoping for a fairy-tale run-in this year, looking, perhaps, to the F.A Cup victory of Wigan Athletic as inspiration.
And, although the scenes at the end of the Preston North End-Blackpool match from Monday night at Deepdale were regrettable, it underlines the clear passion and pride that the small club supporters possess.
According to The Guardian, after the final whistle, some fans ran onto the pitch which stretched the resources of the stewards which ended in one steward getting injured badly by a police horse.
Hopefully, we won’t get a repeat of that with tonight’s flurry of fixtures.
Tonight sees some very interesting ties taking place as Shrewsbury take on Bolton, Milwall face up to Wimbledon, while Queens Park Rangers travel to Exeter.
