Oliver Giroud’s first goal for the Gunners, the highlight of a good evening’s work that also included a brace from Theo Walcott as well as efforts from Miguel, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andrei Arshavin.
Jerome Sinclair became Liverpool’s youngest ever debutant when he came on the field of play in the 81st minute of their clash with WBA. The youngster, who only turned 16 five days ago, came on moments before Nuri Sahin scored his second of the night to give Liverpool a 2-1 win.
Tottenham beat Carlisle United 3-0 away thanks to goal from Jan Vertonghen, Andros Townsend and a late Gylfi Sigurdsson goal while Pavel Pogrebnyak scored nine minutes from time to give Reading a morale boosting 3-2 win over fellow Premier League strugglers QPR.
Chris Hughton’s Norwich side needed a debut goal from Alexander Tettey to get the better of League One Doncaster 1-0 at Carrow Road
