Chelsea have moved to dismiss speculation over Andre Villas-Boas’ future as manager.
Roman Abramovich arrived at the club’s Cobham training centre on Saturday and reports claimed the Russian discussed Villas Boas’ future during crisis talks later in the day.
A Chelsea spokesman had played down the speculation, however, and said Abramovich tries to watch training whenever possible.
The spokesman said: “Roman likes to get down to Cobham and watch training whenever he can. He was able to visit on Saturday and he and Andre had a good chat after the training session, which is normal.”
Villas-Boas also played down the reports.
The Portuguese said: “We spoke about the preparation, of course, for the game. Roman is always very interested in the running of events and it was good for the team to feel his presence.
“We touched a little bit, of course, on next year’s project but mainly on that game.nRoman is a very educated person to the cause of Chelsea Football Club and his aura is always present.”
Villas-Boas joined Chelsea in the summer after the Blues paid Porto £13.3m to buy out the 34 year old’s contract.
