Chelsea are reportedly preparing a summer swoop for Newcastle hit man Demba Ba.
Many pundits have argued that the 26 year-old is the most improved Premier League player this season, having moved to the north east following West Ham United’s relegation last season and there are certain to be a host of top clubs chasing his signature. Few are likely to be able to match the spending power of the west London club however; who are also said to be set to let a number of stars go, possibly including Frank Lampard and the failed Fernando Torres in a bid to freshen up the club next season amid what had become a poisonous atmosphere under former manager Andrés Villas Boas.
Ba has a £7million release clause in his contract and would prove excellent value for anyone looking for his services – possibly in place of 33 year-old Didier Drogba. With two years left on his contract; Ba has reportedly told Sky Sports that he has no intention of leaving St. James’ Park however. Ba’s loyalty is set to be tested this summer with a number of top Premier League clubs willing to break the bank for a player who has scored 16 goals from 25 Premier League appearances already this season.
