Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been left furious after light hearted comments made while waiting for an interview with a French TV station have been made public.
Mourinho was talking to a Swiss businessman as he waited to conduct an interview with French station Canal Plus, and is reported to have been making fun of Chelsea’s lack of options up front.
“The problem with Chelsea is I lack a striker,” he said. “I have Eto’o but he is 32 years old, maybe 35, who knows?”
Mourinho is said to have been irritated by the publication of the comments, and claims he didn’t realise the cameras waiting to film the interview were recording.
The comments were made ahead of an interview where the Chelsea manager addressed the possibility of signing Monaco striker Radamel Falcao to boost his attacking options.
“I need a striker, Falcao needs a club.” he is reported to have said.
“A player like him cannot play in front of 3,000 people. Monaco is a club to end (your career with).”
This is not the first time Mourinho has been linked with the Colombian striker, formerly of Porto and Atletico Madrid, and although speculation is growing that Falcao could be making his way to Stamford Bridge, his high valuation and wage packet would strain the club’s desire to adhere to UEFA’s financial fair play regulations.
