Chelsea are looking to make it three wins from three in the Premier League when they host Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening. Kick-Off 17:30
Chelsea will be looking to continue their solid early season form which has seen them defeat Wigan and Reading in midweek, while Newcastle will be hoping to build on their promising win over Tottenham in their opening league fixture but Alan Pardew’s men have only 24 hours to get ready for the game after their 1-1 with Greek side Atromitos in Europa League qualifying on Thursday.
The Blues will hope they can atone for last season’s 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge to Newcastle which will be remembered for a Papiss Cisse wonder-goal which saw Newcastle finish ahead of the European champions.
Just like last weekend, Roberto Di Mattao only has doubts with new signing Marko Marin, who has yet to figure in a competitive fixture for Chelsea. Gary Cahill looks set to start alongside John Terry with David Luiz (Knee) still not match fit. New signing Azpilicueta looks highly unlikely to make his debut for the Blues on Saturday.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew will make late checks on skipper Fabricio Coloccini (Thigh) and striker Demba Ba (Shin) ahead of Saturday’s trip to Stamford Bridge. The pair were among nine men who missed or were rested for the 1-1 Europa League play-off draw at Atromitos on Thursday night,
Pardew is hoping both will be fit after training in London on Friday evening, although Cheick Tiote (calf) and Shola Ameobi (hamstring) remain doubts.
One to watch:
Chelsea – Eden Hazard
Since making his £32 million move to Chelsea from French club Lille, Hazard has made five assists out of the six goals that Chelsea have so far scored in the Premier League. Could be in for a tougher test against Newcastle’s back four but he’s been exceptional so far.
Newcastle – Papiss Cisse
The man who scored the ‘banana shot’ in this corresponding fixture last season. The perfect partner for Demba Ba and the Chelsea faithful will be hoping that he doesn`t produce any world class finishes on Saturday.
Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle
