Chelsea and Everton have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Oscar Cardozo after reports emerged that the 29 year old is set to extend his contract at Benfica.
According to TalkSPORT the Paraguayan International’s new deal with the Portuguese side is set to include a buyout clause of £47.7m enough to deter the interest of David Moyes’ side and big spending Chelsea.
The former Newell Old Boy’s striker has become a crowd favourite at Benfica since joining the club in 2007 but had appeared to be on his way out with a move to the Premier League looking his most likely destination.
However the extended deal now looks set to dash any hope of fan’s seeing the 42 times capped International in the Premier League. Cardozo has scored four goals in four games this season to add to the 24 goals he scored in all competitions last season.
