The draw for the expanded European Football Championships has taken place and the Republic of Ireland EURO 2016 Group Draw looks difficult.

Martin O’Neil and Roy Keane’ side  are in a tough group with Germany, Gibraltar, Georgia, Scotland, Poland.

The top two teams qualify automatically and the third place teams enter a play-off so the big matches of group will be against the third seeds Poland and fourth seeds Scotland.

Sean St Ledger  - Its a very difficult group, we would have liked to avoid Germany but the players will be looking forward to game against Scotland. Germany are set to top the group so we will be playing for second.

Martin O’Neill “Difficult group but exciting, we may have liked another group as Germany are the stand out team.”

“Lets go positively for the group. Its just very exciting for us as a new management team. Its will be amazing to qualify for the finals.”

    A few corrections…
“Well as this point we know that 24 teams will take part in the showpiece in France and those teams will come from 9 groups – six of which will have 8 teams and one with five. ”
Should be, eight of which will have 6 teams.
“so I am going for ESTONIA. We beat them twice in the Euro 2012 play offs. ”
We beat them once away, we drew the home leg 1-1.
Any combO of these would work for me.
    Best Group
    Greece or Bosnia
    IRELAND
    Slovenia/Norway or Israel
    Finland/Latvia/Estonia or Belarus
    Lithuania/Moldova/Azerbaijan/Georgia or Cyprus
Anyone except maybe Luxembourg or Kazakhstan.

Really good shot at making these Euros unless the slim chance of getting a total nightmare third seed with us like Serbia or Turkey.

Error-ridden article, as another poster highlighted we drew the home leg with Estonia in the Euro 2012 play-offs. Also, Northern Ireland didn’t beat Portugal in the World Cup 2014 qualifiers, they beat Russia 1-0 at home, drawing 1-1 away to Portugal and losing 4-2 at home.

Other than that, your ideal groups are broadly one the money but I’d want to avoid Cyprus, who always achieve a couple of decent results in a qualifying campaign. Moldova are utter dross, as aside from a win against Montenegro they were terrible in qualifying.
