Brazilian Fernando who is nicknamed The Octopus because of his height had only year left on his contract in Portugal so Everton may have got a real bargain.
He has been capped by the Brazil under-20s side, but has not gotten a senior call up.In June 2007, Fernando signed a five-year contract with Porto directly from the Brazilian third division Vila Nova Futebol Clube. He has been a huge hit in Portugal and played 117 times for Porto.
But Everton fans will not be getting many goals from The Octopus as he has only hit the back of the net twice in five years.
