The Football Association of Ireland today (March 18) confirmed that its senior men’s team will play a friendly international match against Wales on August 14 in Cardiff City Stadium at 7.45pm.

The sides last played in February 2011 in Aviva Stadium when the Republic of Ireland won 3-0.

The Republic of Ireland are currently gearing up for the two crunch World Cup qualification ties with Sweden and Austria.

The importance of both games has been increased by the pressure mounting on Giovanni Trapattoni over his recent decision to exclude the talismanic Kevin Doyle from the Ireland squad.
