With Robbie Keane ruled out earlier this morning due to an Achilles injury picked up while training with the team, many thought Shane Long would be suited to replace him in the lone striker role but the Italian manager has preferred Nottingham Forest’s Simon Cox.

Elsewhere the line up is much as expected though Everton’s Seamus Coleman starts at right back with John O’Shea and Darren O’Dea making up the central defence.

Ireland XI: Westwood, Coleman, O’Shea, O’Dea, Ward, McCarthy, Andrews, Fahey, McGeady, Walters, Cox
