Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel last night agreed a new four-year deal to stay at newly promoted Leicester City.

Schmeichel had always spoken of his desire to remain at the KP stadium.

The 27-year-old has agreed upon a £40,000-per-week contract, making him the highest paid player in the club’s 130-year history.

Schmeichel’s current contract expires in July and the Danish international had been linked with a whole host of other clubs – most notably Arsenal and AC Milan.

Southampton were also interested and had reportedly agreed a deal with the player, but it seems that he has now opted to stay at the King Power Stadium for the foreseeable future
