Bad news this morning for Liverpool FC fans as Luis Suarez has made headlines after saying he would be open to a move to an elite club, a club that was in the champions league, in the summer.
The news will come as a shock to Liverpool fans who expected their star man to stay at the club when he asked for a new contract, however with Liverpool struggling in the league and unlikely to make the top four, Suarez may be heading for the Anfield exit.
“You never know in football,” Suarez told AFP when asked if he could be on the move. “A player’s ambition is always there, the ambition of wanting to play in elite teams is always there.
“I’m in a world-class team, an elite team like Liverpool. And if another team comes around with more prospects of competing in international club competitions games, which is willing to have [me], they are welcome.
“We would talk to the club, we would see if I want to go, if I don’t want to go.”
Suarez tops the premier league scoring charts with 22 goals so far and even though he is ‘very happy’ at Merseyside, he will have no shortage of potential suitors across Europe.
However, Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has rubbished rumours, saying Suarez is happy to stay at Anfield.
“Yeah, absolutely, there’s a story about Luis every week. It’s in his local language,” Ayre told BBC ‘Breakfast News’.
“We did a new four-year deal with Luis last summer, he’s had a fantastic season for Liverpool and it doesn’t surprise us every day when he’s linked with a move or he’s asked to comment on it and he makes a comment that gets taken in different directions.
“We love Luis being at Liverpool, our fans love Luis being at Liverpool and he loves being at Liverpool and we fully expect him to be there next season.
“He’s spoken to me and he’s spoken to the manager and he’s been quoted very recently, actually saying about how happy he is.
“He’s said he wants to be a part of the team and that’s what we expect.
“We signed that new contract on the basis that he would continue to provide for us.”
Ireland’s largest independent bookmaker believe he may stay in England and are offering 2/1 that he heads to Manchester City this summer whilst Boylesports are also offering 2/1 that he heads to German giants Bayern Munich.
Other possible options for the Uruguayan include Real Madrid (4/1) and Barcelona (10/1) whilst Manchester United is available at 10/1.
Leon Blanche, Head of Communications at Boylesports, commented “Luis Suarez has been outstanding for Liverpool this season but may be on his way to a more elite team come the summer.”
He added “Suarez is 4/9 with Boylesports to finish Top Goalscorer in the Premier League this season having already netted 22 goals.”

No surprises that Luis Suarez is being linked with a move away from Anfield. I think all Liverpool fans should be prepared for a summer of rumours, denials, more rumours and more denials. No doubt Spurs will encounter the same about Gareth Bale.
Obviously all Liverpool fans want Suarez to stay but on the other hand no Liverpool fan should complain if he does go as he should be playing at the very highest level. He is good enough to play in any team in the world so there will be some of those clubs, and ambitious agents testing the water. Let’s see what the pre-season brings.
