Mamadou Sakho

According to recent reports in the French press, Liverpool are closely following the form of International defender Mamadou Sakho ahead of a possible summer move to Anfield.

The Premiership club are on the lookout for a quality centre back, as  Jamie Carragher is set to retire and both Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates are expected to exit the club. Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has stepped up his search for a replacement and is understood to be keen on Sakho, the Paris Saint-Germain player.

The 23-year-old has been at the club since his teens but has dropped down the pecking order behind summer signing Thiago Silva. He has started just two of his side’s eight Champions League matches – and now appears to be the right time for him to move on and try life in a different league.

If Liverpool decide to pursue their interest in Sakho, they may face stiff competition from both Arsenal and Newcastle, who have also shown an interest in the defender in the past.
