Liverpool target Wesley Sneijder: Jose Mourinho told me to go to Galatasary

Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder has revealed he spoke to both Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal before deciding to join Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Mourinho and van Gaal coached the midfielder at Inter Milan and the Holland national team respectively.

The 28 year old was taken aback by the reception he received on his arrival in Istanbul and speaking before his medical he spoke of the advice both managers had given him prior to his transfer.

He said: “I’ve been very well briefed on all sides, very well briefed.

“I called Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal because they have been key figures in my football career and I think their opinion is important. They both said the same thing: do!

“They gave me the final push, knowing how Turkish football is on the rise.”

Sneijder also had one eye on the 2014 World Cup in Brazil as his motivation for playing regular football, saying, “This is all important in view of the World Cup.”

    Sorry to disappoint you Wesley, but I’m afraid it was your bank manager on the phone. By all accounts he does a very good Mourinho impression

    i suspect wesley was either fearful of moving to england or it was all about money

    Yeah right. Turkish football is up all right, but nowhere near the top leagues. However they do pay well!
