Luis Suarez made his long-awaited return from a 10-match ban to play for Liverpool FC but it was far from a dream return.
Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez showed a poacher’s instinct to volley home the winner in the first minute of the second half, United advanced to play Norwich City despite fielding a largely second-string team.
After the match Liverpool manager talked about the return of Uruguayan Suarez “I thought he was excellent, considering he’d been out for such a long time, He ran himself into the ground. As he goes on, he will get sharper.” said Brendan Rodgers
Suarez seemed to be happy to be back playing but was far from happy with the result.
“The result is not good because we lost but the feeling is good because we played very well, we created chances and we missed,” he told Liverpoolfc.com post-match.
“I know it was a difficult moment but for myself and for the team it’s very important I’m back because I can help the team and [being] off the pitch I can’t. We’ll keep going for the week and for the next game.
“All the time I try my best on the pitch. I’m here to help the team and help Liverpool and I’ll try my best.”
