Despite not being in cup action until much later in the season, it seems as though the big guns of the British game are still red-hot favourites to emerge victorious from the English League Cup.
In fact, the trio of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are the current front-runners to come away with the title at odds of 7/1.
In truth, at present the Red Devils look quite unstable; the Wayne Rooney saga as well as a relatively poor pre-season ruffling their feathers to a certain degree.
Meanwhile, the Stamford Bridge faithful as well as the Sky Blues will be hoping they can steal in under the radar.
Of course, also in the mix are the reigning champions Swansea.
Currently the Swans are 40/1 to defend their title. Realistically, there is no reason that they couldn’t muster up the strength to try and win it for a second consecutive season, particularly considering just how well they managed to juggle domestic survival and a fairytale cup run the last time around.
Tottenham and Liverpool are both 9/1 to win the competition outright and one gets the feeling that if either of these outfits are to win anything, it will be this – particularly with Spurs signing Spain striker Roberto Soldado for a record-breaking fee and Coutinho continuing to flourish under Brendan Rodgers.
Arsenal are also in the mix at odds of 10/1, however without the services of transfer target and Liverpool star Luis Suarez, it’s difficult to envisage Arsene Wenger taking home his first League Cup in 21 years.
