Sir Alex Ferguson was full of praise for what he calls the team of the season in Swansea, and even sounded out Spaniard Michu for a special mention.
Michu has been a revelation this season for Swansea, helping them to their first silverware in 100 years when they beat Bradford in the Capital One Cup final.
Swansea manager Michael Laudrup has done such a good job at Swansea since taking over from Brendan Rodgers that he is even being linked with a mega move to Spain, to take over at Real Madrid should Jose Mourinho leave this summer.
Despite Manchester United running away with the title this season, Ferguson believes that Swansea deserve the team of the year accolade. And Ferguson has joined many others who are surprised at how cheap Swansea were able to sign their star Michu for.
The Spaniard has been in terrific goalscoring form all season notching 15 goals in the Premier League and 19 in all competitions after signing in the summer for just £2million.
“Swansea have been terrific. The boy Michu has been a revelation,” Ferguson told Manchester Untied magazine Inside United.
“To sign him for just £2million and get 20 goals out of him – what a bargain! I wouldn’t say Swansea have been the surprise package but they’ve really lifted their performances.
“They were a newly-promoted side last year and managed to survive in the top flight. This season, they’ve kicked on to another level and become a good middle-to-top side.
“They also won the League Cup of course and they play really good football. I’d say they’re the team of the year with Michu a real bargain buy.”
Despite all the praise Michu has received all season, he is happy to stay at Swansea next year, and admitted that he is really enjoying his football with the Welsh side.
