Latest transfer News – Manchester United could be about kill two birds with one stone as they look to strengthen their squad.

According to reports in the Daily Star, United boss David Moyes is keen on Porto defender’s Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi.

Moyes is keen to strengthen his defensive options after watching his side concede 13 goals in their opening 10 Premier League games. The former Everton boss is believed to have doubts over Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic and is looking at bringing in re-enforcements, with the Porto pair top of his list.

The pair reportedly have a combined market value of £65 million pounds with 22 year old Mangala rated in the £40 million bracket and Argentine defender Otamendi valued at £25 million.

City are also keen Mangala and had a last minute bid for the defender rejected on the final day of the transfer window.

Manuel Pellegrini is likely to rival any United move and with the club recently dispatching International recruitment manager Rob Newmanto Portugal recently to check out the Velez Sarsfield star Otamendi in action, United could face a real battle to land their pair.

However United, who will look to do their deals early in the window after their summer recruitment woes, are hoping that they can steal a march on their cross city rivals with Porto believed to be interested in Brazilian star Anderson.

The midfielder moved to United in a £17 million deal from Porto six years ago and could return to Portugal as part of any deal for the defenders.
