Mayo injury blow ahead of NFL final

Updated: April 25, 2012

Mayo’s Aidan O’Shea will not play for the next six months following a groin injury.

It had been hoped he would face Cork in this Sunday’s National Football League division 1 final but it has been confirmed that he will not now. O’Shea sustained the injury shortly before the league semi-final win over Kerry.

The Connacht side meanwhile have confirmed that Andy Moran will captain the county for the remainder of the season, having been one of the captains used during the league campaign.

Goalkeeper David Clarke will start as vice-captain as the Yew County look for revenge following their eight point defeat at the hands of the Rebels in the 2010 league decider.  Cork will also be looking for revenge however as it was Mayo who knocked the defending champions out of last year’s All-Ireland series at the quarter-final stage!

Both managers will name their starting XV’s towards the end of the week with Mayo boss James Horan hopeful that Séamus Ó’Shea and Alan Freeman will be fit to start.
