Jay Bothroyd scored a late winner to boost Queens Park Rangers’ hopes of staying up in the top division and deal a blow to Southampton’s own survival prospects.
Loic Remy hit the net after 14 minutes to take the lead, but the Saints battled back equalised through Gaston Ramirez just before half-time
Jay Bothroyd tapped the ball home from close range to restore the lead for QPR, and fine saves from substitute goalkeeper Rob Green helped the west London side to gain their third victory of the season and give managee Harry Redknapp a very happy birthday.
QPR remain bottom of the table but have fresh hope that they can survive, while for a hugely disappointing Southampton this was a disastrous result, one that keeps them firmly in the battle to avoid the drop.
