Robbie Keane ruled out of Germany game

Updated: October 11, 2012

Robbie Keane will miss Friday’s World Cup qualifier with Germany due to the Achilles injury which saw him sit out training yesterday, leading to assurances from the management team that he would be fit in time.

Keane had a light jog before training today with the Ireland physio before sitting out training, the issue is believed to have been cause by a Paul McShane tackle in training on Tuesday.

The LA Galaxy man was believed to have been favoured to lead the line against Germany – and now that he joins Kevin Doyle on the sidelines it is likely that Shane Long will get his chance as a long striker.

Keane will undergo treatment over the weekend in an effort to be fit for the match against the Faroe Islands on Tuesday.
