There’s not long left now until a brand new Premier League season kicks-off and spectators’ attention is already starting to turn to the golden boot for the 2013/2014 season.
As per usual, the big questions are already starting to roll around as the excitement mounts with every passing day.
How many goals will the most prolific scorer get come the end of the season?
Will he score crucial goals along the way?
And more importantly, who will it be?
Last year’s league top scorer Robin Van Persie (4/1) is the early favourite to once again be the most clinical striker in the country, and it seems easy to understand why.
However, he’s not the only man people should keep an eye out for attempting to rattle the net, as the field is absolutely jam-packed with goal-grabbing talent.
Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, who only managed to bag himself a relatively paltry 12 goals last season in the league, is at odds of 8/1.
Leon Blanche, Head of Communications at Boylesports told SportsNewsIreland “We have had to shorten Robin Van Persie into 7/2 from 4/1 following continuous support for the Dutch player.”
He added “Punters are hesitant to back Rooney and Suarez as it is still unknown if they will be at their respected clubs this season whilst Christian Benteke has proven popular at 16/1 with Boylesports paying 1/4 odds 1-2-3-4 places.”
Meanwhile, although the future of Wayne Rooney (14/1) at Old Trafford is still quite uncertain, it seems as though there are still a select few football fans who believe that no matter where the England international chooses to ply his trade, he will convert with regularity.
Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke, who surprised many with an incredible 19 goals, is also in amongst the hopefuls, although a lack of quality support play is likely to count against him.
Of course, Tottenham’s newly signed Spanish striker Roberto Soldado (18/1) will be hoping he can convert his La Liga form to a new, harsher, English atmosphere.
Finally, want-away Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is at odds of 16/1. Having declared his intentions to leave Merseyside, he now must wait and see if he’ll be helping the Gunners with his strike rate come the start of the new season.
