Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said that he expects to have a very busy summer in the transfer market and that he wants to add four or five new players to his squad before the start of next season.

Liverpool are 9/1 with Boylesports.com for a Top 6 finish in this seasons Premier League

Rodgers was busy in January, signing Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea and Phillipe Coutinho from Inter Milan, two players that have so far done well at Anfield and with the possibility of adding more players, Rodgers believes that it is inevitable that some players will leave the club.

Jamie Carragher is set to retire at the end of this season, leaving Liverpool short of defensive cover at the back.

“There is no doubt there is a natural rebuilding that will come with the likes of Jamie Carragher going. I am happy with the squad if I can then put another three or four quality players to it. It is quality we are after, not quantity,” the Northern Irishman explained,

“January was a productive window for us and hopefully if we do the similar in the summer then it’s going to be a real good place for us.”

It has been reported that Rodgers may try and sign Ashley Williams from his old club Swansea, but the defender is highly sought as Arsenal are also keen on the Welshman. Dutch defender Stefan De Vrij could continue the Liverpool revolution for next season, while Newcastle United’s Hatem Ben Arfa, Blackpool’s former Liverpool player Thomas Ince and Paris St Germain’s Kevin Gameiro have also been considered as men that can mount a serious challenge for Champions League qualification.

PSG star Gameiro has welcomed the links with Liverpool and he has already said he would be happy to move to Merseyside if the opportunity arose.

Rodgers believes that Liverpool need to be smart in the transfer market and not waste money or lose transfer targets to other clubs, like when they lost out on signing Clint Dempsey to Spurs in January.

“Of course you have an ideal target, but we are getting to a situation now where, for me, you have to have three players and if one doesn’t come off you have to be comfortable with the other two – If you get one of those you are happy,” he stressed.
