Cristiano Ronaldo completed a ten minute hat-trick as Real Madrid defeated Getafe 4-0 in La Liga.
Jose Mourinho’s side were holding on to the slenderest of leads at the Bernabéu before the former Manchester United player put the result beyond doubt with a dazzling ten minute display.
Getafe had managed to frustrate their opponents until they fell behind courtesy of a disputed goal early in the second half. The away side felt that their keeper, Miguel Angel Moya, had been fouled by Rocardo Carvalho immediately before Sergio Ramos bundled the ball into the net for the opener.
However, Getafe could have little complaints about what followed, as Cristiano Ronaldo came to life to complete a perfect hat-trick. The blitz began in the 62nd minute when Mesut Ozil played a perfect through ball to the winger who finished off brilliantly, low into the corner with his left foot.
It was 3-0 moments later when the Argentine Angel di Maria crossed an inviting ball to the far post and Ronaldo was there once again to head home his second of the game from point blank range.
The rout was completed when Luka Modric was fouled inside the box and from the resultant penalty the Portuguese star smashed the ball to the net to claim his fourth hat-trick of the season and his 17th while wearing a Real Madrid jersey.
Having beaten Valencia 5-0 in La Liga last week, it seems that Mourinho’s side are returning to some sort of form. Madrid remain third in the table but no doubt the fact that they have scored nine goals in the last two league games, could spell trouble for Manchester United. Alex Ferguson’s team will make the daunting trip to the Bernabéu for the first leg of the round of 16 tie in two weeks time and will come up against their former hero, who himself has claimed five goals in his last couple of games.
