Everton manager Roberto Martinez has told potential buyers that talented midfielder Ross Barkley is not for sale at any price.
The 20-year-old featured prominently this season as he helped the Toffees finished fifth and is in England’s World Cup squad.
In an interview with The Guardian, Martinez said he has no intention of letting Barkley leave Goodison Park this summer.
“Ross is probably the best English talent I have ever seen but he is not the finished article yet and you need to be very careful,” said Martinez.
“It’s our duty to protect him and I know Everton is the perfect place for him.
“Ross is delighted Everton and feels very much that he is in the right place at the right time of his career.”
The Spaniard believes his star youngster will stay faithful to the club, even if he stands out at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
“Nothing is going to faze him,” he said. “Ross could be in a position to impress millions of people at the World Cup, but he will never look at it in that way.
“He will come back the same person, I guarantee you that. He’s not someone who will lose sight of reality when he comes back.”
