Shamrock Rovers winger Gary McCabe has signed a new two year deal with the Hoops as new boss Trevor Croly assembles his squad ahead of the season.
The 24-year-old Tallaght native joined the club in 2011 from Sligo Rovers and is now contracted to Rovers until the end of 2014.
McCabe has won the league and Setanta Cup in his time with the Hoops and says that he’s happy to have the backing of Croly.
“It’s good to have the security of a two year contract, but it’s also a boost as it shows that Trevor has confidence in me to do well.
“I can’t wait to get back into the football next season and to put this year behind us. I think we’re going to have a good year in 2013.”
Croly himself said that McCabe will play a key role at Tallaght as Rovers look to put last season’s disappointing outcome behind them.
“There were other clubs interested in him, but he was keen to stay on,” said Croly.
“He is an exciting player who can create and score goals, so he will continue to be a great asset to the team. He can also play in a number of positions; it is always good to have versatile players like that in your squad.”
Croly recently added Jason McGuinness and James Chambers to the team and the signings of Sean O’Connor and Mark Quigley were announced yesterday.
