Shelbourne take the M1 on Friday night to visit Oriel Park for the Airtricity League Premier Division game with Dundalk FC. Kick-off is scheduled for 7.45pm
Both teams return to league action on Friday, following their successes in the Quarter Finals of the FAI Cup – Shelbourne seeing off Shamrock Rovers 2-1 at Tolka Park, while Dundalk defeated Bohemians, at Dalymount, by the only goal of the game.
Both of these sides have played nine league games since last they met in Tolka Park on July 6th, a fixture that Shelbourne won with a score-line of 4-0. Of the 27 points that each could have taken from these games, Shelbourne came out slightly on top, collecting 6 (W-1, D-3, L- 5), whereas Dundalk collected 4 (W-0, D-4, L-5).
Of the two games played between the sides this season, the first – a highly entertaining game, played at Oriel Park on Good Friday – ended 0-0, one of only two scoreless draws which the Reds were involved in league action this season. The second game, in Tolka Park, was a very one sided affair, with Shelbourne running out comprehensive 4-0 winners.
On Friday night’s game, Shelbourne manager Alan Mathews commented “We will go into Friday’s game well prepared as we do for each game. There are still 15 league points to be won and we want to get as many of them as possible to push up the table. We have the players to do so. I can’t complain about the efforts they have put in though out the season. His will be another tough assignment, as there are no easy games in the league and we’ll be pushing for the three points on Friday night.”
Anto Murphy will be missing from the squad for Friday due to suspension, having been red carded minutes from the end of the game against St.Patrick’s Athletic.
There are doubts about the fitness of Philly Hughes and Philly Gorman, with groin and hip injuries respectively. A decision on their availability will not be taken until Friday evening.
