Barcelona have announced they have agreed a four-year contract extension with defender Gerard Pique.
The 27-year-old Spain international will sign a new deal that will keep him with the Catalan club until the end of the 2018/19 season.
Centre-half Pique, who will represent defending World and European champions Spain in Brazil this summer, re-joined Barcelona in 2008 after four years at Manchester United.
In a statement on the Barca website read: “Barcelona announce they have reached an agreement with Gerard Pique for the renovation of his contract, which would have finished on June 30, 2015, for the next five seasons.
“The new contract will run until the end of the season 2018/19 season and will be signed in the coming days.”
This news follows appointment of Luis Enrique as the club’s new manager on a two-year deal after the sacking of Gerardo Martino.
Martino paid the price for the club’s failings this season having being knocked out of the Champions League and missing out on a La Liga title.
Barcelona were held to a 1-1 home draw by Atletico Madrid, who also defeated them in Europe, on the final day of the season last weekend, where victory would have seem them win the league.
