It’s been a rather good start to the 2013/2014 Premier League season for Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea as they’ve stormed to the top of the table.
Granted, the Blues have played an extra game than most, but it would have been difficult for Chelsea fans to ask for a better start than this.
Add to this the fact that the London club haven’t played particularly well so far, and it’s starting to look good for Chelsea already – Just imagine how results will go when they actually do start to gel together.
Some of the same problems from last season continue to persist, however, as none of their strikers have hit the ground running. Fernando Torres has still to find his true form, while Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba haven’t had time to get into their groove just yet.
In fact, it’s been their midfielders who have taken up the goal-scoring mantle with Oscar and Frank Lampard becoming the early contenders for their players of the month.
And although it’s still very early in the season, following Manchester United and Chelsea playing out a scoreless draw on Monday night, Boylesports can report that punters still have faith in Chelsea and have supported them into 2/1 from 9/4.
City, who last landed the Premier League in the 2011/12 season, are now 9/4 from 7/4 to win back the Premier League trophy under the guidance of new manager Manuel Pellegrini.
In truth, The Sky Blues will be keen to improve upon their relatively mixed start to the new campaign which has seen contrasting fortunes from their opening couple of fixtures. A 4-0 drubbing of Newcastle United was followed by a shock 3-2 loss to Cardiff last Sunday, and Pellegrini will be keen to get the title challenge back on track this weekend.
Meanwhile Manchester United are friendless in the market and have drifted out to 11/4 from 11/5 .
Leon Blanche, Head of Communications at Boylesports told SportsNewsIreland: “We have already had some shock results in the Premier League with newly promoted Cardiff beating Manchester City on Sunday.”
He added: ‘Punters are starting to believe that under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, Chelsea are massive Premier League contenders and they are now 2/1 from 9/4 to win the 2013/2014 Premier League, and if the support continues, the 2/1 is sure to harden rapidly”
