Tottenham target Leandro Damiao is likely to leave Brazil this summer says Internacional’s director of football.
Tottenham were close to signing the Brazilian forward in January but the deal never materialised with the Internacional holding out for too much money. Spurs were linked with a move before these latest comments but it now seems likely that Damiao will be joining the London club in the coming months.
Damiao is currently contracted at Internacional until 2017 and reports in Brazil suggest the club would only part with him for upwards of €20million.
The Brazilian side’s director of football, Luis Cesar Souto de Moura, admits he expects Damiao to be prised away in the summer due to the amount of interest being shown from abroad.
He told UOL: “Leandro Damiao is indeed the player that is most likely to leave Internacional, especially because foreign clubs are interested.
“Damiao is the player of the moment, everyone is seeing that. He is a great player, he’s very special.”
Spurs are long term admirers of the 23-year-old and are in pole position to sign the talented striker although they may yet face some competition from Italy, as Napoli are eyeing up the Brazil man, should Edinson Cavani leave this summer.
