Transfer News: Manchester United target joins Real Madrid

German international Toni Kroos who had been a target of Manchester United has joined Real Madrid in a deal believed to be in the region of £20m

The news will come as a blow to Manchester United fan’s as Kroos will add even more quality to a Real Madrid side that includes the likes of Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo. The 24-year-old former club Bayern Munich tweeted the following today .

“DONE DEAL: Toni Kroos will make an immediate switch to Real Madrid after the clubs reached an agreement”

The 24- year-old has only one year remaining on his contract which is why Madrid are acquiring the German international for a relatively small fee. Kroos is considered one of most highly coveted midfielders in European football and is just 24 years old.

“We thank Toni Kroos for his time in Munich,” said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the Bayern chief executive. “We have achieved great success with him here. We wish him and his family all the best in Madrid and with Real.”

Kroos is expected to wear the number 8 shirt with the Spanish giants. He is expected to be officially unveiled at 4pm today. A deal looked inevitable for days after Kroos stated the following after the World Cup final.

“We’ve finished the World Cup in the best way possible. Now I’m going to Madrid, so that’s two dreams achieved.”

Kroos made 173 Budesliga appearances including an 18 month loan spell at Bayer Leverkuson.  He has signed a 6 year deal and is believed to earn 5.3m after tax.
